Ministry of Information sent letters to Department of Posts and Telecom to cancel domain of 191portal

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sent a letter to the Department of Posts and Telecommunications to cancel the domain allocation of 191 online portals of the country and to close the links of those portals based on the information of the intelligence agencies of the government. Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud gave this information in response to a question of Mujibul Haque Chunnu, a member of the opposition Jatiya Party during the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Monday (January 30).  He said that steps will be taken to stop any online media if there is a complaint of spreading anti-national news.

Dr. Hashan Mahmud said in response to the questions raised in the question and answer table presided over by the Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, 346 online newspapers including 162 mainstream online news portals, 169 dailies online portals and 15 TV channel online portals have been registered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Highlighting the government's plan to stop anti-national news, the information minister said, based on the information of the government's intelligence agency and the activities that spread confusion among the public, a letter has already been sent to the postal and telecommunication department to cancel the domain allocation of 191 online news portals and stop the links.

In response to the question of Syeda Rubina Akhtar, Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat, the Information Minister further said that currently 1,141 weekly and monthly newspapers are publishing from Dhaka. Among them 509 daily, 345 weekly and 287 monthly newspapers.

In response to the question of Didarul Alam, Member of Parliament of Chittagong-4 Constituency, the Information Minister said that it has no opportunity to broadcast substandard programs in Bangladesh Television as direct electronic media. As a state owned media, BTV broadcasts national culture, entertainment and heritage preservation music, informational dramas, programmatic programs including national channels.

Hasan Mahmud said, currently 4 state owned TV and 34 personal satellite TV shows are being played its program. The TVs are broadcasting as per Jan Jatiya Samprachar ordinance-2014. There are guidelines to prevent malpractice in national broadcasting.
